There are no pretenses in a stable.
Décor is not an issue. Titles do not move you to the front of the line. A resume is not needed. There is no dress code. If you can stand the aroma, you are in. The Christmas story brings us to the most basic of enclosures—the home of the household animals. Not a place you would choose to spend unlimited time. Not the place where you would find a newborn baby. And certainly not the birthing place for a king! God is intentional in His planning for the coming of His Son. Since pride is the downfall of men and angels, God sent a clear message that humility is the virtue He exalts. A trip to the stable brings us all to the same level. Just because the scene is of a lowly nature doesn’t mean we bring shabby gifts. He deserves the best we have to offer: our time, our talent, our treasure, our devotion. And even that dims when we compare it to the Gift in the manger. As Christmas approaches, let’s lay aside the things that divide us and come to the stable with open hearts and minds. We may find that the “smell” is not in the stable, but in us. Next Steps... I will give my best to the Savior in His mission of reaching and rescuing all levels of lost mankind.
